Protect Your Mobile Device Investment

How many cell phones and tablets do you own? Most families have a cell phone for every adult and the older kids, plus a few tablets to boot. When you add up how much all these devices are worth or how much it would cost to replace them, it can add up to a small fortune. It makes sense to spend just a little more to protect these expensive devices with protective gear. Here are a few accessories you should have for all your iPhones, iPads and other mobile devices.

Case or Cover

First and foremost, the best protection for your phone or tablet is the case. This outside cover is designed specifically for each make and model to hug the phone or tablet. You will find cases that are made of different materials, from hard plastic to thin rubber. Many cases are more decorative than protective, but all help keep your phone from exterior damage.  Even cell phone skins help reduce scratching and adds some cushion from impact damage.

Screen Protector

To minimize the chance of screen scratches and cracks, screen protectors are your best option. Almost everyone needs protection for their screens to keep them working properly. Although there is no protector that is indestructible, this gear can reduce the instances of damage.

Insurance or Local Repair?

Phone insurance for damage once was the way to go. But now with all the apps and personalization that goes into your phone, do you really want to mail off your phone for a few weeks if you get a cracked screen or water damage? It is better just to bring your cell phone for local repair store if it needs it so you can get it back the same day. Most malls and shopping centers now have mobile device repair and accessory stores to help you protect your expensive devices.

Three Changes to Make Your Home Green

Are you dismayed every time you open your energy bill? Even if you are careful to monitor your heating and cooling, turn off all unused lights and do other energy-saving tricks, it may be your home that is wasting energy, not you. Older homes with single-paned windows, shingle siding and an older roof could be leaking energy at the seams. Upgrading any of these three areas of your home can make it greener and much more energy efficient.

Vinyl Siding

Not only does vinyl siding look great and offer low maintenance, it can also improve your energy efficiency. Another green aspect is that it does not need constant painting that adds more chemicals to the environment.

New roofing

An old roof can be a money pit for your home. Shingles need to be repaired, leaks can cause water and mold damage, and your heating bill can be literally going through the roof. A quality new roof is a great investment in your home, cutting down on repair and energy costs.

New Windows

If your windows are leaking in the cold or hot outside air, you are fighting a losing battle trying to keep the air in your home comfortable. Newer windows can make a large difference in your energy bills, often paying for themselves in just a few years.

On top of saving you money and being a green choice, new siding, roofing or windows can all add value to your home. Everyone appreciates a home that is green and energy efficient. If your homes needs any of these three major sources of energy loss, talk to your local home improvement company about upgrading your home for a greener future.

Can a New Conveyor Belt Improve Your Bottom Line?

Posted in Conveyor Belts

When it comes to the manufacturing industry, every aspect that goes into creating your products affects your bottom line, including your conveyor belts. A poorly designed belt can cost your business product loss or downtime, all impacting your bottom line. Whether you a large manufacturer or a small startup, every penny matters. Is it time to upgrade your conveyor belt to help reduce costs and increase profits?

Signs it Is Time to Upgrade Your Conveyor Belt

Keeping your product moving is imperative to mass production. So when any of your conveyor belts breakdown, malfunction or lose product, it can cost your business plenty. While buying a new conveyor may seem like a large expense, it may increase productivity, making it a wise investment. Here are signs a new conveyor belt is the best choice for improving your bottom line:

  • High repair costs. Does it seem like your conveyor belt is being repaired more than it is moving? An aging conveyor can nickel and dime your business with ongoing repairs. It is better to cut your losses and start with a new conveyor.
  • Product loss. Is your conveyor not ideal for your product type? If you changed packaging or bought a used conveyor, it may not be the best type for your business or product. Getting the right conveyor for your product can have a large impact on your productivity levels.
  • Safety and efficiency issues. Some older equipment is poorly designed for safety or energy efficiency. Just upgrading your belt can reduce energy costs and injury liability.

If you are ready to upgrade your conveyor belt, trust a company that specializes in producing, customizing, installing and servicing commercial conveyor belts.  The right belt can make a big difference in your bottom line.

What Damage Can Be Repaired on a Smartphone?

If you own an iPhone, Samsung Galaxy or any other smartphone, you know how expensive these phones are to buy new at full price. So what happens when you drop your new phone in the toilet or it gets sat on when you leave it on the seat of your car? Many of these phones can cost upwards of $400, so is it possible to repair these phones instead of replacing them? Yes it is! There are now local cell phone repair shops that can quickly and affordably repair smartphones, extending the life of these spendy phones. Here are some common repairs that can be fixed on iPhones and other expensive smartphones:

  • Screen damage. What is the most likely component to get damaged on a smartphone? The large glass display. Pressure or impact can cause cracks or chips in the screen, making it difficult to use the touchscreen. This is an easy repair and should be done as quickly as possible. With a cracked screen, the phone is more susceptible to other types of damage.
  • Water damage. Moisture and smartphones don’t mix. Even with better water protection built in, a submerged phone rarely gets out without any damage. But what once was a death sentence for any cell phone is now a common issue that can fixed at a cell phone repair shop.
  • LCD components. Whether they get damaged or just wear out, LCD components are an important aspect of your smartphone’s performance. These parts can be replaced so your phone works like new again.

You no longer have to spend a small fortune to replace your cell phone when it gets damaged. Find a quality cell phone repair shop with good customer reviews to complete repairs to get more life out of your expensive smartphones.

Does Your Business’ Metal Staircase Need Repair or Replacement?

Posted in Metal Stairs

Metal stairs are an excellent investment for commercial properties. Apartment buildings, manufacturing outfits and many other types of business prefer the durability and easy maintenance that metal staircases provide. However, even steel does need some maintenance, including repairs. But when it is more than just a staircase repair that you need to keep your commercial property safe? Here are some signs that you may need a complete metal staircase replacement.

  • Multiple repairs. Have your metal staircases needed repairs constantly over the last few years? If the welds on corners are beginning to give and your treads are starting to rust, it may be time to consider replacement. Fixing the stairs piece by piece will cost you more in the long run, plus eventually you will still need to pay for a replacement.
  • Injuries. Have you already had an employee or customer injure themselves on the stairs due to disrepair? You cannot afford to have a large liability like a crumbling staircase in your business. A new staircase is a drop in the bucket compared to a liability lawsuit.
  • Aesthetics. If your metal staircase is used by customers, you don’t want an old, rusty staircase representing your business. If the integrity of the staircase is compromised, it is time to replace; however, if it looks bad yet is still viable, a professional coating can make it look great again and extend the life of your stairs.

Whether you decide to repair or replace, you need quality metal fabricator. Make sure to choose a company that specializes in commercial metal staircases to ensure you get the best quality and safety built into your metal stairs.

Tips for Choosing a Utility Cart for a Sportsman

Posted in Golf Carts

If you want a new utility cart for hunting or fishing, you are going to want a cart that can handle more than what is on the average golf course. Backwoods trails are harder to navigate than the manicured green lawns of the course. If you are shopping for a utility cart for yourself or your spouse to take into the woods, here are some tips for getting the right cart for the active sportsman or sportswoman.

  • Electric versus gas. In most cases, rugged terraine is better handled by a gas engine than an electric cart. However, electric engines are quieter for those headed into the woods to hunt. You will also want to consider how far and how long you will be using the cart; you don’t want to get stuck in the woods because the batteries run out of their charge.
  • Tire tread. For rough, muddy roads or traveling off-road, you will need tires with deeper tread and a cart with higher clearance. Larger wheels with rugged traction tires are a must for some areas.
  • Weather. If you will be using your cart in cold, wet weather, you may want to invest in some weather protection. You will need a roof and weather enclosure, plus a heater can be needed after a long, cold day in the woods.
  • Weight capacity. If you plan on hunting large game and bringing back your prize with your cart, consider the load and towing capacity. Two or three hunters and a deer on the back will require a large load capacity!

Make sure to talk to your local dealer about how you will be using your new cart. They can help you find the right cart for your sporting needs.

5 Personal Uses for Golf Carts Off the Course

Posted in Golf Carts

Even people who have never played golf in their life can be happy owners of a golf cart. Although originally created for this popular sport, the golf cart has evolved into a useful personal vehicle for many other reasons. Although there are many commercial uses for these carts at airports, parks and other businesses, there are many reasons to use these carts personally. Here are five great uses and reasons to own a personal golf cart.

  1. Neighborhood traveler. Do you live in a close community? Golf carts are excellent for close-by transportation in your neighborhood. Many carts can be converted for legal road use.
  2. Special events. If you host large events on your property, a golf cart is a great way to transport guests to the action.
  3. Disabilities. If you have a bad knee, arthritis or other health conditions, golf carts are a good way to keep you mobile and active.  You can bring them with you on camping trips and other adventures that may involve more walking then you can handle.
  4. Property maintenance. Those with large properties like farms are a perfect fit for a golf or utility cart. This gives you a fast, easy way to move around your property.
  5. Other sports.  These carts may be named for golf but they are used in other sports too. Skeet shooting and hunters can benefit from the private ownership of their own golf cart.

There are many different sizes and types of golf carts to meet your personal needs. Stop by a local golf cart dealer to check out the options available – there is a model right for almost any need or budget.

Are Your Gutters Ready for Winter?

Your home’s gutters are an important part of your roofing system; they safely divert rain and melting snow away from your home, protecting it from damage. That is, as long as they are working properly. Leaves, needles and other debris can clog your gutters, causing them to overflow. Before the wet months of winter are here again, you need to make sure your gutters are ready to do their job.

Gutter Maintenance

Your gutters should be cleaned and inspected at least once a year, although twice a year is ideal. Spring and fall are the best times to schedule maintenance, before and after the wet, stormy months of winter. Here are a few tips to making sure your gutters are ready for the winter storms ahead.

  • Clean your gutters. First, you need to make sure your gutters are clear of all debris. A professional pressure washing contractor can clean your gutters safely and effectively. This will remove any leaves or other debris that has collected since the last cleaning.
  • Inspect your gutters. Once the gutters are clear, you need to check for dents or leaks. If you hire an experienced gutter cleaning company, they will often perform this as part of their service.
  • Make repairs. If your gutters are not draining properly, need a section replaced or are leaking, schedule repairs before the winter weather rolls in. It is much less expensive to repair gutters than fix your roof, siding or foundation if they are damaged from a poor drainage system.

Don’t put off maintaining your gutters. Call your local pressure washing contractor to schedule your gutter cleaning as soon as the last leaves are falling from the trees.

Stabilize Your Property with a Retaining Wall

Posted in Retaining Walls

Winter can bring high moisture levels that can cause erosion on your property. This is especially true for lots that contain hills and slopes. When the soil erodes, it can ruin your landscaping efforts and even damage your home. One of the most affordable and aesthetically pleasing options to stabilize your property is with the addition of a paver retaining wall.

Benefit of Using Pavers for Retaining Walls

When it comes to stabilizing soil, you need a solid material for your retaining wall. While wood and natural stone boulders can both be used for erosion controlling walls, there are some benefits of using pavers, including:

  • Durable. Pavers will last for many years, unlike wood that can rot when in contact with soil.
  • Strength. Like natural stone boulders, pavers are strong enough to handle the heavy load of slope erosion, offering a solid foundation to stabilize your property. Many pavers are interlocking, offering even more stability.
  • Affordable. Pavers can be much less expensive than some other forms of stone. You can chose from marble or travertine pavers or man-made options like concrete or brick.
  • Beautiful. Pavers create a uniform, beautiful retaining wall that is also functional. There are many different sizes, shapes and colors to choose from.

If you want to protect your property from erosion damage this winter, consider adding a new retaining wall. There are many different styles and options that can add curb appeal to your home while adding erosion protection. Talk to your local contractor that offers paver retaining wall construction to discuss the best options for your home and budget before those winter storms start rolling in.

Signs of a Sinking Home Foundation

The foundation of a home is what protects the entire structure and keeps everything aligned and in place. When the foundation begins to sink due to soil erosion or other issues, the entire house is at risk of damage and even collapse. The good news is that a foundation that is sinking can be repaired and structural damage avoided if it is caught and repaired quickly. Often there are subtle signs that a foundation is sinking that can help alert homeowners to the problem before it cause substantial damage to the home.

  • Doors or windows are uneven. If suddenly doors and windows are not opening and closing easily or seem uneven, this could be a sign there is settling in the foundation.
  • Cracks. Cracks around windows, cracks in drywall, cracks in the actual walls or foundation – all these are signs that the whole house may be settling or the foundation sinking.
  • Uneven floors. Does one end of the house seem to have an uneven floor, usually leaning down toward the outside wall? The foundation may be sinking on that side of the house.
  • Roof leaks. If your roof is leaking, it can be a sign of a foundation problem. This is especially true if you have a newer roof that shouldn’t be having leaking issues.

A sinking foundation will only get worse and should never be ignored. The quicker the issue is addressed and repaired, the better chance you have of preventing further damage to the structure. In most cases, the longer you wait, the more expensive it will be to repair. At the first sign of a sinking foundation, call your local foundation repair professional to begin discussing repair solutions.
